When simple dials go wrong

Modern dashboards are packed with digital screens, yet Ford's latest headache comes from an unexpectedly traditional component. A total of 102,159 pickup and commercial trucks are being recalled because their analog instrument clusters cannot be trusted. The physical needles on the speedometer, the tachometer, or both can freeze in place or swing erratically, leaving drivers guessing their real pace and engine workload.

Hardware headaches and workshop downtime

The safety action, filed under NHTSA campaign 26V653 and Ford reference 26C46, centers primarily on heavy-duty workhorses. Over 91,500 of the affected vehicles belong to the 2025 and 2026 Super Duty roster, spanning from the F-250 up to the commercial F-600, alongside one single 2026 F-750. Another 10,570 units are light-duty 2026 F-150 pickups.

This is not a general design defect across the entire truck run, but a manufacturing flaw traced to a specific batch from an instrument cluster supplier. Ford identified the problem by cross-referencing supplier production records with warranty logs, noting 18 warranty claims and 93 field reports by mid-September. Because the failure lies in the internal hardware module, an over-the-air code update cannot resolve it. Owners must take their trucks to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the instrument cluster replaced entirely free of charge.

The practical risks on the road

A faulty dial creates tangible driving hazards. A speedometer needle that sticks at a lower number makes unintentional speeding violations far more likely and compromises judgment during highway merges. At the same time, an inaccurate tachometer prevents the driver from noticing when the engine is operating outside its normal parameters. Ford has reported no collisions, fires, or injuries linked to the malfunctioning needles.

What owners should do next

If you operate a 2025 or 2026 F-Series truck, keep a close watch on your dashboard indicators. Ford begins mailing interim notification letters between October 26 and October 30, with final repair notices arriving once replacement hardware reaches dealerships between December 7 and December 11. You can verify whether your specific truck is included by entering your vehicle identification number on the NHTSA recall tool or by calling Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.
