FAQ
Questions people ask first about KAR
Do you sell cars?
No. We research and recommend. You buy wherever the deal is best, which keeps our advice neutral.
Is it free?
Yes. KAR is free while it is in early access. A paid tier is planned for later, and we will say so clearly before anything changes.
What's different from ChatGPT?
A chatbot can talk about cars, but it answers whatever it is asked, in whatever order it likes. KAR asks for your must-haves first, checks every car against all of them, ranks the rest for how you will use the car, and labels where each price and figure came from. No brand or dealer can pay to change the order.
How long does it take?
Car recommendations come back in minutes. Accessory matches are just as fast.
What do you need from me?
Budget, how and where you drive, passengers and cargo, fuel preference, and any deal-breakers.
How does KAR make money?
Today, it does not: KAR earns no revenue and is free while in early access. A paid tier, licensing the matching engine, and anonymised demand data are all planned. Read the full breakdown.
Do dealers pay to be recommended?
No. No one can pay to appear in a car recommendation or to change where they rank in one: no paid placement, no sponsored listings, no dealer commission on a car. Here is how we are funded instead.
