Stelios Fytros joins KAR AI as a founding member

KAR AI ruled out the easiest money in the car category on day one. Stelios Fytros joins the founding team to build a business that works anyway — bringing a decade of enterprise account management and an MBA to a company that, until recently, was a teenager and a laptop.

There is a straightforward way to make money recommending cars. A dealer pays, or a brand pays, and the recommendation quietly reshapes itself around whoever paid. It is common enough that most drivers assume it is happening even when it is not.

KAR AI closed that door before it opened the first one. Nobody can pay to appear in a KAR brief, and nobody can pay to move up in one. That is not a marketing line — it is the entire reason a KAR recommendation is worth reading.

It is also a commercial problem, and it is the reason Stelios Fytros is joining the founding team.

Who he is

Stelios has spent more than ten years in key account management at Cosmos Business Systems, working with enterprise clients on long-horizon commercial relationships — the kind that are won slowly, kept through delivery, and lost in a single bad quarter. He is also the founder and executive coach at Growth Zone Consulting, where he works with businesses on strategy, structure and growth. He holds an MBA. Earlier in his career he worked in IT for the Hellenic Army and the Greek Ministry of Interior.

That last detail is easy to skip past, but it matters. Stelios is not a strategist who has only ever seen the strategy layer. He has been close to the systems, close to the client, and close to the P&L, which is an unusual combination and exactly the one a young company needs when it starts asking commercial questions for the first time.

What he owns at KAR AI

His remit is Strategy & Business Development. Concretely: positioning and go-to-market, segmentation of our audiences, the revenue model and how it holds up under our independence constraint, commercial partnerships and sponsorships, stakeholder mapping and outreach, the material we take into B2B conversations, and the KPIs that tell us whether we are building something durable or just something busy.

He also brings a discipline that a founding team of students genuinely benefits from: the habit of asking what a thing is worth to the person paying for it, before deciding what it costs.

Why this is the hard version of the job

Growing an independent research service is harder than growing a comparison site, because the two most available revenue lines are exactly the two we have refused. Every route left is slower and requires more trust: products and services drivers choose to pay for because they work, and partners who want to be associated with independence rather than to buy their way past it.

That constraint is not a burden we tolerate. It is the product. A recommendation you cannot buy is the only kind worth having when the purchase is a five-figure decision you will live with for a decade. Building a business on top of that, rather than around it, is the interesting problem — and it needs someone who has actually done commercial work before, not someone learning it live.

Where we are

KAR AI has matched 150+ registered drivers, delivered 200+ recommendations, and covers 40+ brands. The work has been featured in GOCAR.gr, Greece's leading automotive magazine. We are still small, still pre-incorporated, and still building — which is precisely why the commercial foundations matter now rather than later.

Welcome aboard, Stelios!
